Is Braylon Edwards Happy in Cleveland?

braylonedwardsbrownsIt is no secret that once new Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini came to town that some people weren’t very happy with their new situation under Mangini rule. The first move Mangini made was sending their star tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. to the Tampa Bay Bucs. Now Winslow has been a problem ever since the Browns drafted him a few years back with a series of injuries and big mouth, but without him the Browns would have been god awful last season as he was their only real receiving threat since Braylon Edwards was struggling.

Even the quarterback position has been under fire since Mangini came back into town as there have been trade talks involving both Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson all offseason long.

Would it be a good idea to trade one of them? Probably, but you don’t want your team looking like the Denver Broncos before the season begins.

Even though there has been a lot of trade talk involving the two quarterbacks things have started to quiet down as the upcoming season draws near. The biggest question now is whether or not wide receiver Braylon Edwards is dedicated to the Browns and no longer wants to be traded.

Personally, I think the Browns will move him one way or the other. I don’t think that is a smart move as he is the only real down field threat that the Browns have left, but if he isn’t happy then he should pack his bags and Cleveland should start looking for the best possible trade which is no easy task for a receiver coming off a disappointing year.

So even though I believe adding Eric Mangini is an upgrade at the coaching position this season, the Browns are still going to have a rough season this year as they will be making tons of adjustments just to stay competitive. Hopefully they can bring it all together in time to make a run at the playoffs.

Brady Quinn and Braylon Edward Trade Rumors

81181359JR021_JETS_BROWNS

Trades or trade talk is not normal in the NFL. In the NBA and MLB it is pretty much common place, but now the NFL is starting to evolve into a league that embraces trades.

First it was Jay Cutler going to the Chicago Bears and now it looking like the two biggest names left in Cleveland might be on their way out as well. If you think Josh McDaniels has dropped the ball in Denver as the new head coach, Eric Mangini will be public enemy number in Cleveland if these trades go down without getting anything in return.

The Browns offense took a big blow recently by sending their Pro Bowl caliber tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. to the Tampa Bay Bucs. Winslow was somewhat of a locker room problem so everyone kind of saw that coming, but shipping Brady Quinn and Braylon Edwards out of town at the same time just sounds like madness.

I can understand that Braylon Edwards had a down year, but I don’t understand why they would want to move him. Either he is not happy in Cleveland or Mangini has already let it be known that he is going in a different direction at the receiver position. The rumors flying around right now is that Edwards will be on his way to the New York Giants. Not sure what they will get in return though.

As for Brady Quinn, this kid has a huge upside and his a hometown boy. So I don’t see why you would want to move him unless you have the opportunity to get Mark Sanchez or Matt Stafford somehow. The trade talk right now has Quinn heading out West to the San Francisco 49ers who are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback.

The only thing I see Cleveland getting in return is their draft pick which will probably result in Sanchez going to the Browns.

Who knows what will happen between here and the NFL draft which is just around the corner, but one thing is for certain Mangini could make or break his coaching career in Cleveland with the choices he makes over the next couple of weeks.

Eric Mangini Agrees to 4 Year Deal With Cleveland Browns

ericmangini1

It is official, Eric Mangini will be the head coach of the Cleveland Browns for the next 4 years.

The figures of the deal haven’t been disclosed just yet, but Mangini has agreed to a deal with the Browns, the same place where he was a ball boy when he was just a little kid.

Personally, I think Mangini is the perfect fit in Cleveland. He is coming off a successful season in New York, even though the New York Jets didn’t make the playoffs. With a young and talented team filled with a variety offensive weapons Mangini will be in a good position to make the Browns into a winner in his first season as head coach.

The only real problem Mangini will be faced with will be getting control of the egos on his new team. There is talent galore in Cleveland with a promising young quarterback in Brady Quinn, a Pro Bowl caliber wide receiver in Braylon Edwards and one of the best tight ends in the NFL in Kellen Winslow.

On paper this team could be a Super Bowl contender, but they just haven’t been able to bring it all together to make a good run.

Even though the Browns season was a huge disappointment the hiring of Mangini was move in the right direction with a promising future for the Browns in the horizon.

Browns to Interview Eagles GM Tom Heckert

It seems as though the Cleveland Browns have changed gears and have switched to searching for a new GM instead of pursuing head coaches since Eric Mangini looks to be their guy.

In their first attempt to find the right GM for the job the Browns have targeted Philadelphia Eagles GM Tom Heckert and plan on interviewing him soon.

EaglesHeckert3

Heckert has been the Eagles GM for about two years now starting back in 2006, before that he spent about 10 years with the Miami Dolphins, but had the bulk of his success in Philadelphia where he drafted players like Michael Lewis, Lito Sheppard and the best of the bunch running back Brian Westbrook.

As one of four candidates for the GM spot in Cleveland including Scott Pioli (New England), T.J. McCreight (Cleveland) and George Kokinis (Baltimore) there is no clear cut favorite, but if Mangini gets the head coaching job Kokinis might be the front runner for the job because his history with Mangini in the past in Cleveland.

As for the head coach, like I said Mangini looks like he is on top of the Brown’s list, but Cleveland has also shown interest in Steve Spagnuolo (Giants), Josh McDaniels (Patriots) and Cleveland’s own defensive coordinator Mel Tucker.

Eric Mangini Leading Candidate for Browns Head Coach

It was reported that Eric Mangini had a compelling interview for the position and Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner is just fascinated with the former New York Jets head coach.

ericmangini

Mangini is no stranger to the Browns organization after a stint in Cleveland under head coach Bill Belichick who he had an ugly divorce in their time with New England Patriots.

Obviously no commitments have been made for the head coaching job just yet, but with comments like these from the owner of the Browns I would say chances are good that Mangini will be the head coach of the Browns next season.

Unless a hall of famer caliber coach like Mike Shanahan or Bill Cowher come to town saying they are interested in the head coaching position in Cleveland, than Mangini will probably without doubt be #1 on Lerner’s list of coaching possibilities.

Who Will be the Next Coach of the Cleveland Browns?

75558031JH002_Cleveland_BroWith Romeo Crennel getting the boot in Cleveland, the team basically in disarray after a very disappointing season and Brady Quinn getting into with teammates , which available head coach would be the best fit for the Browns? Is there coach out there that can fix this mess?

I get the feeling that the head coaching position in Cleveland will not be vacant for long, but who would be the right coach for the job is the real question here.

From what the headlines have been saying a few coaches have already been mentioned in the running for the position like Steelers legend Bill Cowher and former Jets head coach Eric Mangini. In my opinion, either one of these guys would be great as the next coach of the Browns, but with Broncos axing Mike Shanahan just recently he would be arguably the best coach out on the market right now.

So far I get the feeling that Mangini is the front runner for the job. First of all I think Mangini shouldn’t have been fired by the New York Jets in the first place. Yes, they didn’t make the playoffs after pretty dominating most of the season, but with all the added pressure of adding a living legend like Brett Favre at quarterback and seeing the hated division rival New England Patriots lose Tom Brady for the season the Jets had a lot to live up to this season.

With that being said, Mangini isn’t coming from a bad team or a losing record and knows how to win and win now. Shanahan would be an awesome addition to the Jets, but after all that has happen in Denver he may just call it quits and not want to coach anymore. As for Cowher, it has been reported that he doesn’t want to coach anymore and will not be coaching next season.

My vote goes to Mangini, but if they can somehow bring Mike Shanahan to Cleveland that is a no brainer. Who knows what will happen, but hiring any of these head coaches is definitely a step in the right direction for the Cleveland Browns.

Brady Quinn Injury Update

Browns Bills Football

Well it seems after the Cleveland Browns exciting victory over the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football earlier this week came with a price, quarterback and savior of the Browns Brady Quinn now has a broke finger on his throwing hand.

Just when it seemed like the Browns were about to turn the table with Quinn behind center, the future of the franchise breaks his finger. The good news is he will still be able to play Sunday in week 12 against the Houston Texans or at least try and play, but like we saw with Tony Romo’s finger injury with the Dallas Cowboys, an injured throwing hand can really affect a quarterback’s ability.

The injury to Quinn’s finger, believe it or not, occurred in the first half against the Bills. Obviously he was able to finished that game, and did pretty well, but after complaining about soreness in his hand this week, Quinn had X-Rays taken and which showed a fracture in his finger.

On Thursday Browns coach Romeo Crennel commented on his quarterback’s injury:

“We plan to monitor him on a regular basis, just to make sure that it’s not getting worse or anything like that,”coach Crennel said. “But he’s going to play, he’s going to practice, he’s going to try to help the team win.”

It is no secret that Browns fans don’t really want to see Derek Anderson taking the snaps again, but if the injury turns out like Romo’s did, he might be thrown in there pretty quick.

Brady Quinn was said this about his injury:

“At this point, it’s just a little sore,” he said. “I practiced yesterday, practicing today. Just doing the best we can to take all the precautions to make sure it’s all right.”

The kid seems pretty tough, but then again so did Tony Romo and he could play through it. So who knows, maybe it isn’t that bad.
